About Us
More than $30 million in charitable grants each year drives impact and improvements in our communities. Additionally, Duke Energy volunteers donate nearly $4M worth of their time in nonprofit service.
The Duke Energy Foundation is the charitable foundation of Duke Energy Corporation and represents the integration of multiple foundations from our predecessor companies. The earliest of these foundations was established in 1984 as the Duke Power Company Foundation with a mission to further demonstrate the company’s commitment to “Citizenship and Service” by improving the quality of life for our customers, protecting and enhancing the environment, improving education and being a responsible corporate citizen.
Many of our Foundation’s earliest grantees remain valued partners today: the American Red Cross, the American Association of Blacks in Energy, United Way, multiple historically Black colleges and universities and four-year engineering programs.
Through the years, our Foundation has continued in the spirit of citizenship and service, adapting along the way to better reflect the needs and changes of our communities. After a year of listening, learning and adjusting to stakeholder feedback, the Foundation announced its refreshed strategy in 2021 that prioritizes three pillars, each of which includes a broad suite of adjacent topics:
- Vibrant economies
- Climate resiliency
- Opportunity and inclusion
By focusing on these areas, we can align charitable giving with our clean energy business strategy and build on the unique capabilities of our company, and our Foundation, to deliver the most good to our communities.
Today, we stand ready to deliver more meaningful community engagement, impactful grants and much needed volunteerism to address the challenges our customers and communities are facing.
Rooted in our Foundation’s deep history, we will continue to make a difference wherever needed while pursuing our goals for a clean energy transition.
